Big data can be leveraged to improve the customer’s shopping experience. The retailer’s most popular items can be merchandised to stand out to shoppers in the store. For me, I am an online shopper, when I used sort by button, I can chose to newest, or most popular item to the first review. And items can be recommended to me based on my previous purchases. Sometimes, I can receive their email based on what I am putting in their shopping cart. The big data help retailers offer best shopping experiences to the customers which I like it.

But on the other side, big data easy to loss of online transaction and security of account. Because it is a easy to tracking customer record. A security breach can result in theft, fraud, fines, and reputational loss. Many companies today need to manage their data to minimize their risk, that involves regulatory standard, retention schedules that up to data.

We can make decisions based on data, it is very common for all of us, but it is not easy. Because using data is actually part of the scientific method, and the scientific method requires experiments.
