Learn From News Media Challenges
McKinsey’s research shows mobile devices continue to capture
a larger share of consumer time. In the US, mobile phone use grew 14 percent
each year from 2008 to 2011, while the use of other major electronics platforms
such as TV and personal computers has largely remained flat. Also, mobile phone
use is growing, but the amount of time consumers spend just talking.
I totally agree with the social device challenge, because
most of us behave like “stalkers” on social media networks, observing and
obsessing over people, places, and things that are important to us. We check
our social apps multiple times per day to see what our friends are eating for
lunch and, more important, who our friends are hanging out with.
McKinsey’s research also shows that social networks have
become important points of entry to news consumption. Likewise, consumers increasingly
use social networks to stay up to date on news and general trends. They rely on
them to take advantage of deals and learn about products and services.
A lot of adults use social networking sites to read news, because
social media sites have become a key component of how many news organization
today, and old-media like printed editions to decline. Social media sites are
turning news a way of attracting more eyeballs to improve their own ad business.
For example, Facebook, the world’s largest social network, is also the biggest
in the U.S. when it comes to reading new. For me, I always use Facebook every
date to reading news.
In my opinion, the content should provide value to the
audience like us. Many business will simply copy the information from industry competitors.
I like the high-quality content that will connect with me to reading, keep paragraphs
to 4-5 sentences so that the content doesn't appear overwhelming. Also post pictures that will break up the text and retain my attention.
